ScamCheck is a scam-detection service, available via our web API and WhatsApp bot, that helps users check whether a phone number, URL, or text message matches known scam patterns. This policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and your rights regarding that information.
Information We Collect
When you submit something to ScamCheck for checking, we collect:
- The type of input you submit (phone number, URL, or text message)
- The content of that input (the actual phone number, URL, or message text)
- The result of the check (e.g. safe, low risk, high risk) and timestamp of when the check was performed
If you report a new scam to us, we additionally collect:
- The submitted value (the suspicious phone number, URL, or text)
- The category of scam you believe it to be
- Optional contact information, if you choose to provide it
How We Use Your Information
We use the information you submit to:
- Check your submission against our scam-pattern database and return a result to you
- Log each check (input type, input value, result, and timestamp) so we can review and improve the accuracy of our scam detection over time
- Review scam reports submitted by users and, where appropriate, add new patterns to our database
- Analyze submissions in aggregate and in anonymized form to identify emerging scam trends and improve our detection patterns
Data Sharing
We do not sell or share your submitted data with third parties. Data is used internally, solely for operating and improving the ScamCheck service.
Data Retention
Check logs and scam reports are retained to support ongoing improvement of our detection patterns. Where data is used for analysis beyond individual checks, it is aggregated and anonymized so it cannot reasonably be linked back to an individual submitter.
Your Choices
You are not required to provide contact information when reporting a scam, this field is optional. If you have questions about data we may hold related to your submissions, or wish to make a request regarding your information, please contact us using the details below.
